The weekend started swimmingly for the U/17's who discovered the council cleaning the pitch 30 minutes before the start of their first game. Dylan Wylde pinched 3 quick wickets for 4 runs and Scott McInerney 2/19 and Mike Brearley 2/14 restricted the Eildon Park Panthers to just 75 from 24 overs. Mike Brearley was in a hurry to represent Ringwood and let loose with a swashbuckling 47 on the way to 4d/97. The U/17 2's could not get a team up for Rnd 1.
The U/15 1's batted well to get to 3/88 from 25 overs with Zach Flintoff making 26, but the boys could not get enough wickets to trouble Ferntree Gully who made 2/98, new recruit Dishan Malalasekera was tight though with 1/7 from 3. The Under 15 2's got beaten on home soil by a brutal Lysterfield who restricted KGCC to 9/61 from our 25 and then piled on 6/15 from their 25.
The U/13's had a tough day versus the Eildon Park Panthers with just 9 runs scored from the bat the boys posted a 32 run target for Eildon Park who compiled 5/57. A few sessions facing coach Ian Jongen in the nets should prepare the boys for anything! The U/12's start next Friday night, we are still looking for a coach if anyone out there is interested!
The 1st XI won the toss and batted and it must've been a juicey deck cause the home side were in a little trouble at 5/32, but Jhol Dutoit did his best to stabilise the ship with 19, and Adam Wild 17 and David White 12 clawed the team towards triple figures before Whitey was LBW with the score on 95. At 4/17 the Gardens were well in the contest and had their tails up, a partnership of 32 gave St Johns hope, but another spell of bowling of 6/14 finished off St Johns and gave the 1st XI the perfect start to the season. Adam Wild took 4/17, Shannon Small 2/5. Travis Mulder 2/10 and David White 2/31.
The 2's went to Talaskia Reserve with an MCG like surface it was a boundary fest early in St Johns innings with the 100 coming up in around 15 overs. Sean Reid and Simon Taylor slowed down the innings with tight bowling with Tails snapping up 3/22 with a fine display of part time bowling. Daniel Richards was also very accurate and took 3/39 bowling both at the start and in the final overs. Chasing a total of 206 it was a slow start with about 25 on the board after 10, Rhys Marget stepped up the scoring rate with a quick fire 28, and Mitch Gregory took the team to within 16 runs before being stranded on 50* with 9 balls to go. David Hay also batted well with 28. The 2's will being hoping to take better for into round 2.
The 3's got off to a flyer with Peter Webb 33 and Zach Flintoff 14 putting on 52. Tim Flintoff belted the ball around the park scoring his maiden century in his maiden game finishing with 101 (10 4's and 8 6's). But once dismissed the innings fell away with Greg Crook 18*, taking the score to 9/203. The boys were confident with that score especially with the score at 1/1 but a failure to take further wickets left Upwey with plenty of fire power and they passed the score with 7 overs to go.
The 4th XI were on the bottom oval, and batting first were bowled out for 112, Shane Jean fell 2 runs short of a 50, and had little support from the rest of his team with the side bowled out in 33.5 overs. There was a spark at 2/9 and 4/57 but a partnership took St Johns to 90 and there was little stopping them on their way to 8/132 before the match was called off. Ian Jongen took 3/19 and son Gerad Jongen took 2/18, good signs for the future!
The 5ths didn't have the numbers this week, hopefully they can get enough numbers for next week. Interestly of the 4 matchs in B2, there were 0 actually played, all forfeits.
